Apologies for the delay. I can’t tell you how m Apologies for the delay.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written this phrase over the past two and a half years. I have small kids, so I don’t have enough time to do the things my professional life requires. My responses are always delayed. I do not like dropping the ball, and I am not, in general, good at asking for time or for help or for forgiveness. So this has been (very) hard for me. I have been counting down to this date: Aug. 21 starts the first week when I will have both kids somewhere, five days a week, since before my youngest was born in June 2021.
I thought I would feel relief this morning, finally finding myself with more time. But instead I felt bereft. I met a friend for coffee. I took some time to myself. I counted the hours until I could pick them up. I have been trying to hold on to my career, but I am realizing that it will, in some form, still be here after they are not.
Sometime, I will answer your email. At some point, I will reply to your text. I promise I am trying. Eventually, no one will interrupt my thoughts by asking me to play Trouble or for help getting a snack. When that day comes, I will be sad, but I will be timely in my response. Until then, apologies for the delay.
